Kurtar Gitsin

Good food shouldn’t hit the trash. Kurtar Gitsin turns a restaurant’s, bakery’s or café’s end-of-day surplus into a “surprise bag” that people nearby can rescue for up to 50% off — built end-to-end for the Turkish market.

The story

From waste to rescue — how it came together

Step 1

The problem

Every evening, restaurants, bakeries, cafés and markets throw away perfectly fresh food that simply didn't sell. It's lost revenue for the business, wasted money for the neighborhood, and a pile of avoidable CO₂. The surplus-food model has already proven — through companies like Too Good To Go — that this waste can become a marketplace. Turkey didn't have a native, properly localized version of it.

Step 2

The idea

One product, two sides. Buyers (“Kurtarıcı” — the rescuers) discover surprise bags nearby on a map, pay securely in-app, and pick them up in a set window. Businesses (“İşletme”) turn what they'd have binned into extra revenue with zero risk. The whole thing is pickup-only, no courier — that's what keeps discounts this deep. And it's not a translated foreign app: it's built for Turkey from the ground up — Turkish UI throughout, iyzico for payments, KVKK-compliant data handling.

Step 3

What Rapivio built

The full product, from idea to launch-ready, as fixed-price client work: the native app, the backend, and the marketing site. Buyers get a map of active packages with distance-sorted listings, live stock ("last 3 packages"), a reservation-and-pay flow, a personal order code for contactless pickup, push reminders before the pickup window, and an impact profile that counts packages rescued, money saved, and CO₂ avoided. Businesses get a listing panel and an in-app admin verification flow. Under the hood: Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Storage), an iyzico sub-merchant setup so shops don't need their own payment account, and a fast Astro landing page collecting the launch waitlist.

Under the hood

Architecture decisions that matter

Denormalized snapshot architecture

Orders freeze a snapshot of the package at purchase time, so an order stays a correct historical record even after the shop edits or sells out the bag. Fast to render, cheap to run.

Custom map widget

Distance-sorted package list with category filtering; sold-out bags sink to the bottom automatically.

Scheduled Cloud Functions

Precise "30 minutes to pickup" and "your bag is ready" push notifications, deep-linking directly to the order.

Soft-delete for packages

Live orders never break, even after a package is removed — referential integrity without database complexity.

Regional & compliant

Hosted in europe-west1, KVKK-compliant data handling, secrets managed via Secret Manager.
